It seems everywhere you turn there is talk of growth and change in our community. This growth is undeniable, yet the generosity that exists in Sheridan remains still, and some change can be positive. The incredible expansion of organizations that work to benefit the community and the continued commitment of individuals to service will never fail to astound me. Growing up in Sheridan in the 1950’s, the commitment to service in our Sheridan community was already clear. As student body president at Sheridan High School, I had the opportunity to serve the community in many ways. Although I left after graduation to further my education and build a career elsewhere, Sheridan drew me back. When I returned in 1998, I wanted to serve the community in response to the support I had received. Through service, I have met a lot of amazing people. Some choose community service out of a commitment to Sheridan College; passion for local athletics; or a desire to improve the lives of our youth through access to education or in meeting basic needs such as hunger. I am in awe of the many volunteers I serve alongside regularly as we seek to leave Sheridan a better place. My hope is that everyone can find an area to serve in which they are passionate and find fulfillment. Not only does this impact our community, but it also leads to personal growth and will change one’s life for the better. I am confident as Sheridan continues to grow and change that this commitment to service will continue to be a symbol of our community for years to come. Everett McGlothlin Whitney Benefits Trustee
