Student Loans

The Whitney Benefits student loan program provides interest-free student loans to Sheridan and Johnson County high school graduates.

Applications for Fall 2026 funding and new loans will be open from April 1 through October 1, 2026.

Whitney Benefits uses an online student loan application process. For the 2026-2027 academic year, you may be eligible to borrow:

Undergraduate Students – Up to $24,000 total, with a maximum of $6,000 per academic year.

Vocational Students – Up to $24,000 total, distributed equally over the terms of the program.

Graduate Students – Up to $40,000 total, not to exceed the cost of attendance.

Students may attend any accredited academic or vocational school. Eligible programs include vocational, undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies.

Application Checklist

When starting your online student loan application, please have the following ready:

  1. Identify two qualified co-borrowers.
  2. Provide the most recent IRS Form 1040 for yourself and each co-borrower. (Please submit only the first two pages of the 1040 or 1040EZ and please make sure that the copies are signed.) View an example of the required 1040.
  3. Request official transcripts from all high schools and colleges attended. Transcripts must be sent directly to Whitney Benefits by the issuing institution.
  4. Submit proof of enrollment – your current class schedule showing your name, the semester, and enrolled credit hours.
  5. Vocational and Graduate students only: Submit documentation showing your school’s cost of attendance. For reference, the Cost of Attendance is available for regional schools and is updated as information becomes available.

LOANS ARE AVAILABLE TO:

  • Graduates of a Sheridan or Johnson County high school.
  • Individuals who earned a GED through a Sheridan or Johnson County high school or Sheridan College.
  • Sheridan or Johnson County residents with at least four consecutive years of residency, including homeschooled students.

REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must have:

  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative high school GPA or 2.25 cumulative college GPA.
  • Enrolled in at least 12 undergraduate credit hours, 9 graduate credit hours, or are considered a full-time student and are in good standing.

iNELIGIBLE APPLICANTS:

Applicants are not eligible if they:

  • Are related to a Whitney Benefits Board Member or employee.
  • Additional eligibility requirements may apply. Applicants are encouraged to contact Whitney Benefits to discuss their individual circumstances.

Whitney Benefits, in its sole and absolute discretion, has the authority to determine whether a student meets the qualifications for loan approval.
