Strengthening our Community Through Partnerships and Philanthropy

I believe that each one of us has been blessed with unique gifts, talents, and opportunities, and that it is both a privilege and a responsibility to use these things to be of service to others.  When we commit ourselves to service, we help strengthen the fabric of our community.

There is no question that communities thrive when people freely share their time, energy, and talents. Strong, flourishing communities are built on healthy relationships and genuine partnerships. Through these connections, we are in a position to help meet needs, spark innovation, and create growth. Sheridan is richly blessed with individuals who embody this spirit, and I am continually inspired by the generosity and willingness of our community to step forward, support one another, and give selflessly.

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working in a nonprofit organization, in private practice, and now in the public school system. I have also been blessed to serve on a variety of boards. In all of these capacities, I have witnessed firsthand the remarkable strength that emerges when individuals and organizations come together with a shared purpose. Each of these experiences has solidified my conviction that education is one of the most powerful tools we have for creating opportunity. Like Mr. Whitney, I value education for all—I appreciate his commitment to both the “brain worker” and the “hand worker.” I am excited about the work Whitney and our numerous partners are doing with the K-14 project, as I am confident that by pairing education with industry, we will help open meaningful pathways, prepare students for lasting careers, and spark growth. I am grateful for our community’s commitment to supporting internships for students across various fields, as they open doors for future leaders, innovators, and caregivers.

I am especially encouraged by the partnerships Whitney Benefits and Sheridan College are forging with our hospital and other community providers. These collaborations are equipping the next generation of medical and mental health professionals to meet critical needs in our community. These forward-thinking partnerships are exactly what makes Sheridan robust.

It is truly an honor to serve on the Whitney Board. Through stewardship, partnership, and a shared belief in the capability of every individual, I hope that together we can play even a small role in building a thriving community where opportunities are created and lives are changed.
